The Island is a fantasy world. The magical creatures of the Island will reflect the elements-
Fire, Water, Earth, Air.
The costume pieces will be stylized with Asian influence.
And all the romance of the 1940-1950's film era.
The fun part is - it can be whatever one may wish to visualize, when dealing with fantasy.

The crew of the shipwrecked crew are reality. And will reflect such in their costumes.
The influence on their costume style will be that of the Italian Navy, early years of 1900's.
They were sailing with the Duke of Milan and the King of Naples, afterall :
